I’ve lived in NYC for 12 years now, but the one thing I never quite made it to was a New York Fashion Week show. In the past, these tickets tended to be quite exclusive going to industry insiders and celebs. Recently, the trend seems to have brands reaching out to bloggers and fans to let them experience this magical time in NYC. I was fortunate enough to receive an invitation from KYBOE!
KYBOE, a Dutch watch brand invited me to their show and they offered me a sample of a watch from their newest collection. I was so excited to finally experience NYFW firsthand.
The Day of the KYBOE! Show
The day of the show, it was a sweltering 90+ degrees. As I stood in line waiting for entrance, the sweat just dripped down my body. Surrounded by celebs and top bloggers, I was woefully underdressed in my Forever21 frock. Lesson learned, dress to impress at NYFW.
Once the doors opened we were ushered into Moynihan Station and corralled in a large hallway with 100’s of other eager guests. We waited here nearly an hour.
When the doors to the studio opened, the lights were low, the music was loud and we felt like we were in a night club in meat packing more than in a building behind Penn Station. With bleachers on both sides of the runway and a press section at the end, I scanned the room to take it all in. Each seat had a giant No. 1 finger and a catalog. There were three large television screens to showcase the watches from the collections and later the models.
Showtime!
As the show started, the runway started moving. There was an electric conveyer belt with mannequin hands displaying the watches from the collection located on top of the runway. The hands circled around the runway as the models walked along side it. You can see this in the photo below. One by one the models came out in their chic beachwear showcasing the new watches from KYBOE.
This show might have been unique compared to other brands I have seen photos from, as the collection was split 50/50 male and female. In other words, every other model was a topless male. Needless to say they held my attention for the duration of the show.
For the finale of the show, all of the models did one more walk through to showcase the watches. Marc and Jennifer Bell, founders of the company also made an appearance and thanked everyone for attending. As the show concluded, members of the audience were invited to come take pictures with the models and get up close and personal with the new watch collection.
